March 27, 2025: Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India soon, marking his first trip to the country since the Ukraine War began in 2022. This visit follows an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Moscow last year. Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that preparations are underway for Putin’s visit, although no specific dates have been announced.

The upcoming visit is expected to strengthen the long standing alliance between India and Russia. The two nations have a decade long history of co operation, with Russia becoming a key supplier of defence equipment to India. Additionally, Russia has offered India discounted oil amid western sanctions over the Ukraine war.

During his visit, PM Modi and Putin are likely to discuss key issues, including the Ukraine war and geo political implications of Donald Trump’s presidency. India has maintained a neutral stance on the Ukraine conflict, with PM Modi emphasizing that “it’s not the era of war”.
