Guwahati: Security forces have conducted extensive search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable regions of hill and valley districts in Manipur.
The operations resulted in the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition.
In Churachandpur district, security forces recovered a large haul of arms and ammunition, including rifles, pistols, mortars, hand grenades, and explosives, during operations in the Thangjing hill forest. The seized items included one country-made rifle, one bolt-action rifle, and one .22 pistol.
Three country-made mortars of varying sizes and a local-made hand grenade with 10 live 5.56 mm rounds, 12 empty 7.62x39 mm cases, 4 empty 7.62x45 mm cases and 500 grams of gunpowder were also recovered.
In a separate operation in Kangpokpi district, security forces recovered additional arms and ammunition, including one country-made 9 mm pistol and four country-made single-barrel bolt-action rifles, 20 live 12 bore cartridge rounds, 20 live 7.62 mm rounds and one local-made canon (Pumpi) and three hand grenades.
Further investigation regarding the seizure is being carried out.
However, there were no arrests made during the seizure.
