When a computer scientist commented that “lots of people need to be awake when the load is high”, Altman replied that he had never seen such a massive response before.

March 30, 2025: OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, recently expressed his amazement at the overwhelming response to ChatGPT’s new Ghibli-style image generator. On the micro-blogging platform X, Altman stated that the reaction has been insane, leaving his time with no time for rest.

The Ghibli image generator is a part of ChatGPT’s latest update, which creates images inspired by the iconic animation style of Studio Ghibli, a renowned Japanese Studio founded by Hayao Miyazaki.

When a computer scientist commented that “lots of people need to be awake when the load is high”, Altman replied that he had never seen such a massive response before.

“We are trying to keep up with the demand since the launch, the demand is biblical” Altman explained.

Since the feature’s release, social media platforms like X, Instagram and Tik Tok have been flooded with AI generated Ghibli inspired art.

However, the trend has also raised ethical concerns about AI tools being trained on copyrighted creative works and the potential impact on human artist’s livelihood in the future.
