March 26, 2025: The US senate has confirmed Jay Bhattacharya, a professor of health policy at Stanford University, as the new director of the National Institute of Health (NIH). Bhattacharya, of Indian origin, secured the position with a 53-47 vote.
Bhattacharya is a renowned expert in health policy, with a strong background in medical research and economics. He serves as a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a senior fellow at several Stanford institutions.
Bhattacharya, in his new position will work alongside newly appointed US Health and Human services secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr .
