Massive Traffic Curbs in Place for IPL 2025 in Guwahati

March 24, 2025: In anticipation of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 matches at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Stadium, Barsapara, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Guwahati, has announced an extensive traffic management plan to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles and public safety. With matches scheduled for March 26 and 30, the city is gearing up for a surge of cricket fans, prompting the need for stringent regulations.

The police have imposed a ban on commercial goods carriers and slow-moving vehicles on major routes, including G.S. Road, B.K. Kakati Road, A.K. Azad Road, and Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Path, from 2 PM to midnight on both match days. This measure aims to ease congestion and prioritize the movement of emergency vehicles and essential services.

To further streamline traffic, key roads such as A.K. Azad Road will function as one-way routes from Lalganeh Tiniali to Cycle Factory Tiniali starting from 3 PM. Similarly, Kula Basumatary Road, commonly known as Barsapara Road, will operate as a one-way stretch from Barsapara Tiniali to Dhirenpara Tiniali during the same hours. These adjustments are expected to prevent bottlenecks near the stadium and surrounding areas.

Parking regulations have also been tightened to accommodate the influx of vehicles. Multiple parking zones have been designated at strategic locations, including Champabati Field, Ganeshpara Field, and Arya Vidyapith College Field, with capacities ranging from 100 to 300 LMVs. Two-wheeler parking has been arranged at Ambari Rangapathar Field, located 2.2 km from the stadium. Vehicles without valid parking passes will not be permitted to park along key routes leading to the stadium.

Entry to the stadium will be managed through six designated gates to prevent overcrowding and ensure orderly access. Gates have been allocated for teams, officials, car pass holders, and spectators based on their entry points, including Barsapara Road, R.G. Baruah Path, and Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Path.

Despite the extensive restrictions, emergency services such as ambulances, fire tenders, oxygen cylinders, and school buses will not be affected. Authorities have assured that these essential services will have uninterrupted access throughout the event.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police has appealed to the public to cooperate with the traffic guidelines and plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience. With these measures in place, the city hopes to host a safe and well-organized sporting event for cricket enthusiasts.
