March 27, 2025: Amit Gupta, a senior Indian technology officer, has been detained in Qatar since January 1, leaving his family in India worried and searching for answers. Despite being held for nearly three months, the charges against him remain unknown.

Amit, the country head for Tech Mahindra in Kuwait and Qatar, was taken into custody by Qatar’s state security department officials from a restaurant near his office. His father, JP Gupta, revealed that Amit is allowed only a weekly five-minute phone call, during which he insists on his innocence and breaks down in tears.

The Indian govt hasn’t officially commented on the case, but sources within the foreign ministry confirmed that the Indian embassy in Qatar is closely monitoring the situation and providing assistance to the family.
