March 21, 2025: In a significant development, the Supreme Court Collegium has decided to transfer Justice Yashwant Verma from the Delhi High Court back to the Allahabad High Court. This decision comes after a large amount of unaccounted cash was discovered in his official bungalow in Delhi during the Holi vacations.
The cash was found after a fire broke out in the building, prompting family members of Justice Verma to call emergency services. The police were subsequently informed, and the matter was reported to the authorities.
Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, heading the collegium, took a serious view of the discovery and unanimously decided, along with the five-member collegium, to transfer Justice Verma. However, some members felt that stricter action was needed to prevent damaging the Judiciary’s reputation and its ability to deliver justice.
There were also discussions about asking Justice Verma to resign. As of now, Justice Verma has not commented on the recovery of the cash.
