Guwahati: An inmate was reportedly found dead inside the Silchar Central Jail in Cachar, Assam on Friday.

The prisoner, identified as Pintu Rajput, was discovered dead in his cell at Silchar Central Jail earlier today.

According to sources, Rajput allegedly took his own life by hanging himself with a bedsheet. However, an investigation is still pending.

Rajput had been in judicial custody for allegedly stealing cattle.

The jail authorities were promptly notified following the discovery of his body and police arrived at the scene to initiate legal proceedings.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding Rajput's death.
