Guwahati: The relentless rainfall over the past few days has turned the Barak-Guwahati highway passing through both Assam and Meghalaya, particularly the Ratachera-Sonapur stretch on National Highway 6, into a massive pond-like pit.

The situation has become alarming, with drivers facing extreme difficulties in commuting through the region.

The highway, which connects Silchar to Guwahati, has become a nightmare for travellers. Vehicles are getting stuck in the waterlogged roads, leading to accidents and prolonged travel times. It now takes over 8 hours to cover the 75-kilometer distance from Silchar to Sonapur in Meghalaya, while goods carriers are taking up to 24 hours to complete the journey.

According to travellers, the situation is so dire that it's taking several days for goods carriers to reach Guwahati from Silchar.
