India Hits Back at Pakistan’s Unwarranted Jammu and Kashmir Remarks at UN, Calls for Vacating Occupied Territory

March 25, 2025: India on Tuesday condemned Pakistan's repeated attempts to raise the Jammu and Kashmir issue during a UN debate on peacekeeping reforms, asserting that the region "was, is, and will always remain an integral part of India." Addressing the UN Security Council, India's Permanent Representative, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, called Pakistan's remarks "unwarranted" and strongly reiterated India's stance that Pakistan must vacate the parts of Jammu and Kashmir it has "illegally occupied."

Ambassador Harish dismissed Pakistan's actions as an attempt to divert the attention of the international community and emphasized that such claims would never validate Pakistan’s illegal occupation. He also accused Pakistan of promoting cross-border terrorism, which further undermines the peace process. "We would advise Pakistan not to try to divert the attention of this forum to drive their parochial and divisive agenda," Harish remarked, underlining that India would refrain from providing a more detailed reply unless necessary.

The remarks came after Syed Tariq Fatemi, the Special Assistant to the Pakistani Prime Minister, raised the Jammu and Kashmir issue during a Security Council debate on the future of UN peacekeeping. Harish reiterated that Pakistan's occupation of Jammu and Kashmir remains illegal and must end, calling for the region’s full integration with India.

This is not the first time India has been forced to respond to Pakistan's actions at the UN. Last week, at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHR) meeting in Geneva, India rejected Pakistan’s allegations of human rights violations in the region, calling them baseless. Indian envoy Kshitij Tyagi sharply criticized Pakistan’s leadership, accusing them of spreading falsehoods in service of a military-terrorist complex.

India has repeatedly expressed its desire for normal and peaceful relations with Pakistan but has made it clear that Islamabad must first create an environment free of terrorism and hostility for meaningful dialogue to take place between the two nations.
