March 24, 2025: US aerospace giant Boeing has laid off up to 180 employees at its Engineering Technology Center in Bengaluru as part of a global workforce reduction plan, according to sources. The layoffs took place during the December quarter of 2024.
The job cuts are part of Boeing's broader strategy to reduce its global workforce by 10%, announced last year. Despite facing multiple global challenges, Boeing continues to employ around 7,000 personnel in India, which remains a key market for the company.
A source familiar with the development mentioned that the adjustments were strategic, impacting a limited number of positions while ensuring minimal disruption to customer and government operations. "While some roles were removed, new positions have also been created, maintaining a focus on customer service, safety, and quality standards," the source added.
Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC), located in Bengaluru and Chennai, handles complex aerospace engineering work. The Bengaluru campus is one of Boeing’s largest engineering investments outside the US. The company also sources around $1.25 billion annually from over 300 Indian suppliers.
As of now, Boeing has not issued any official statement regarding the layoffs. However, the measured approach in India reflects the company's efforts to balance workforce reduction with sustained operational efficiency.
