Gangtok: A surprise inspection conducted by the Department of Personnel on March 24 revealed serious lapses in attendance and punctuality across various government offices in Sikkim.
The inspection found that 51 employees reported late for duty, while 147 employees were on unauthorized leave.
As a result, the department has taken punitive action against the delinquent employees in accordance with service rules. Officials stated that state government offices operate from 10 am to 4:30 pm, and all staff must be present by 10 am.
To ensure daily attendance and punctuality, the state government has issued a directive to Heads of Departments and Heads of Offices to monitor their employees closely.
The government has also instructed departments to conduct monthly surprise inspections and submit reports to the Chief Secretary's Office.
The department has warned that strict disciplinary action will be taken against employees who fail to maintain punctuality and regularity in their duties. Additionally, District Officers must obtain prior approval from the District Collector before leaving the station, as per existing government orders.
