New Delhi: The devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, leaving a trail of destruction and chaos in its wake. Rescuers in Mandalay, the epicenter of the quake, are racing against time to search for survivors amidst the rubble, with the military government confirming over 1,600 deaths and 2,400 injuries.
The powerful quake was felt as far away as Bangkok, 900 kilometers away, causing widespread damage and collapse of iconic structures and bridges. Strong tremors were also reported in parts of India, including Meghalaya and Manipur, as well as in Bangladesh and China.
As rescue operations continue, harrowing accounts of the devastation are emerging. Survivors are recounting tales of horror, including one who was pulled out of the rubble only to face another earthquake that collapsed the building he had sought shelter in.
The US has warned that the death toll could surpass 10,000, making this one of the deadliest earthquakes in recent history. The Myanmar military government has announced that rescue operations are in full swing, but many areas remain inaccessible due to damaged roads and bridges.
