November 1, 2024: Former US President Donald Trump sent a heartfelt Diwali message to Hindu Americans on Thursday, vowing to protect their interests against what he termed the "anti-religion agenda of the radical left."
In a post shared on X, Trump emphasized his dedication to safeguarding the freedoms of Hindu Americans and enhancing relations with India, which he described as a crucial ally. “We will also protect Hindu Americans against the anti-religion agenda of the radical left. We will fight for your freedom,” he declared, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening the partnership with India and his friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Trump’s remarks came amid ongoing political turmoil in Bangladesh, where he condemned the violence against minorities, particularly Hindus and Christians, following the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “I strongly condemn the barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians, and other minorities who are being attacked and looted by mobs in Bangladesh, which remains in a total state of chaos,” he stated, marking his first public comment on the situation.
The crisis in Bangladesh escalated after Hasina's resignation on August 5, which was triggered by widespread protests against a contentious government job quota system. The subsequent establishment of a caretaker government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has not quelled the unrest, with reports indicating significant violence against Hindu communities during the summer protests.
Trump also contrasted his administration’s approach to that of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, alleging they have neglected the struggles faced by Hindus both domestically and abroad.
