October 28, 2024 - Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra kicked off her campaign for the Wayanad Lok Sabha byelection with a sharp critique of the BJP-led government at the Centre, accusing it of subverting the values enshrined in the Indian Constitution. Speaking at a corner meeting in Meenangadi, Priyanka Gandhi alleged that there are “planned” attacks on minorities in India, referring to the ongoing violence in Manipur.
Addressing the crowd, the AICC general secretary warned that under the BJP rule, the spread of “anger” and “hatred” has become a recurring theme. She also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government of making policies that benefit his business allies rather than the common people.
Priyanka Gandhi’s visit to Wayanad marks her second trip to the constituency after submitting her nomination on October 22. She previously held a roadshow in Kalpetta alongside her brother Rahul Gandhi, former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and Congress party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
The byelection for Wayanad, scheduled for November 13, was necessitated after Rahul Gandhi vacated the seat following his electoral win in Rae Bareli during the recent parliamentary elections.
