March 21, 2025: In a shocking incident that has brought shame to society, a 35-year-old Imam has been arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old minor girl in Otagaon, Moirajhar, under the jurisdiction of Goreswar Police Station in Baksa district. The accused has been identified as Jahangir Alam from Kolgachia. According to reports, Alam had been serving as an Imam and teacher at a madrasa in Otagaon for the past five years.

It is alleged that he exploited his position and cunningly committed the heinous crime inside the madrasa. The victim’s family lodged an FIR against him, following which the Goreswar police swiftly took action and arrested him. Sources claim that the accused had a history of inappropriate behavior and would allegedly lose all moral restraint when around minor girls.

However, his misconduct has now landed him behind bars. The victim’s family, along with the local community, has expressed outrage over the incident, demanding the strictest punishment for the accused. The Imam has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and is currently in police custody. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is underway, and justice will be delivered to the victim.
