Assam to get new Urea Plant in Namrup

March 20, 2025: The Union Cabinet, led by PM Narendra Modi, has approved a proposal to set up a new brownfield ammonia urea complex at the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL) in Namrup, Assam. This complex will have an annual production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes of Urea, with an estimated total project cost of approximately Rs 10,601.40 crore.

The project, Known as Namrup IV is expected to be completed within 48 months and will be financed through a joint venture with a 70:30 debt equity ratio. The complex will be built within the existing premises of BVFCL, leveraging the plant’s existing infrastructure and assets.

The Namrup IV project aims to increase domestic urea production capacity, particularly in the North Eastern region. It will cater to the growing demand for urea fertilizers in states such as Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Eastern UP and Jharkhand.

Key benefits of the Project:

: Increased energy efficiency: The Namrup IV unit will operate with greater energy efficiency, reducing its carbon footprint.

: Employment Opportunities: The project will create additional direct and indirect employment opportunities for the local population.

: Self reliance in Urea production: The project will contribute to India’s goal of achieving self sufficiency in urea production, reducing its reliance on imports.
