March 18, 2025: In a major political development ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) elections, BJP leader and Member of the Council Legislative Assembly (MCLA), Reo Reoa Narzihary, has resigned from the party. His decision marks a significant shift in the political landscape of the region, raising questions about BJP’s standing in the upcoming elections.
In his resignation letter addressed to the President of BJP’s Kokrajhar District unit, Narzihary cited personal hardships—physical, spiritual, and financial—as reasons behind his decision. He mentioned that it had become increasingly difficult for him to continue fulfilling his responsibilities as a member of the party. While he did not hold any formal position within BJP since joining in 2020, he acknowledged that his experience in the party had been invaluable.
Expressing his gratitude towards Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Narzihary stated that the leader’s vision and guidance had left a deep impact on him. He appreciated the opportunity given to him to serve the people of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and extended his respect towards Sarma’s leadership.
Notably, Narzihary’s resignation comes just five months after he was removed from the Executive Member (EM) position in BTC. Despite parting ways with BJP, he has assured his support to the UPPL-led coalition government in BTC, both inside and outside the BTCLA. His decision to back UPPL has fueled speculations that he may officially join the party in the future.
With the BTR elections drawing closer, Narzihary’s resignation comes as a setback for BJP, which has been trying to strengthen its base in the region. His decision to shift his support to UPPL could impact the political equations in Bodoland, adding to the ongoing realignments among key regional players. The coming days will reveal whether Narzihary’s move influences further political reshuffling in the run-up to the elections.
