March 20, 2025: The Gauhati High Court has issued a significant directive regarding the provincialization of Hindi teachers in secondary schools, instructing the state government to reconsider the appointment process.
According to reports, the government has shown reluctance in appointing over a hundred Hindi teachers across eight districts, raising concerns about the implementation of the Provincialization Act, 2017. Taking note of the matter, the High Court has directed the authorities to reconsider the issue under Section 3(1)10 of the Act.
As per the court’s order, the concerned teachers must submit their applications to the Education Directorate within two weeks. Based on these applications, the Education Department has been instructed to complete the appointment process within four months.
This directive is expected to bring relief to many Hindi teachers awaiting provincialization and ensure that the state’s education system receives the required teaching workforce without further delay.
