Guwahati: A newborn baby boy was abandoned near a shop in Bokakhat village of Golaghat district, Assam.

Fortunately, the timely intervention of a local woman, who heard the child's cries, saved the newborn's life. A crowd gathered, and the baby was rushed to the Bokakhat hospital for medical attention.

The baby was left in a cloth bag near the shop.

While it is not known who abandoned the baby, an investigation has been initiated to identify the parents of the infant. 

CCTV footage in and around the shop is also being monitored to trace the "culprit" behind the incident.

Locals said that the incident might also be a case of child trafficking but only an investigation will reveal the actual facts.
