March 25, 2025: The Hailakandi Forest Department has intensified its crackdown on illegal timber trade, seizing a large quantity of valuable teak wood from the Manipur Range. In a recent operation, the department confiscated 200 CFT of high-value teak from a private garden in Dinanathpur village.
According to reports, the illegal timber was recovered from the premises of Mofur Ali, who had allegedly been running an unauthorized teak wood business for a long time. Acting on specific intelligence, the forest officials, led by the Manipur Range authorities, conducted a late-night raid and successfully seized the illegal consignment.
The estimated market value of the confiscated teak wood is believed to be over ₹5 lakh, as per officials. The forest department has assured that stringent action will be taken against those involved in illegal deforestation and timber smuggling in the region.
Further investigation is underway to identify other individuals possibly linked to this unlawful trade. The authorities have reiterated their commitment to curbing illegal logging and preserving forest resources.
