March 28, 2025: A gang of car thieves was apprehended by the police in Kampur late last night following a brutal attack on a car driver. The victim, identified as Pankaj Barman from Tezpur, sustained severe injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College Hospital.

According to reports, two youths from Manohar village in Kampur, Ganesh Das and Champak Das, hired an AURA car (AS12 AA1838) from Paltan Bazar, Guwahati, for a trip to Kampur. Upon reaching Fotazhar in Kampur, they launched a violent attack on the driver, leaving him for dead before escaping with the vehicle.

However, their escape was short-lived. A police team led by Kampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Suraj Dutta, who was on night patrol, intercepted and arrested the accused along with the stolen vehicle.

The critically injured Pankaj Barman was immediately rushed to Gauhati Medical College Hospital. His condition remains serious.

The shocking incident has sent waves of concern across Kampur, with residents demanding stricter measures to curb rising crime in the region. The police have assured a thorough investigation into the matter.
