Deadly Clash at Bangladesh Air Force Base: One Killed in Cox’s Bazar Attack

February 24, 2025: A violent confrontation erupted at an air force base in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, on Monday, resulting in the death of a 30-year-old local trader, Shihab Kabir. The Bangladesh military confirmed that "some criminals" launched an attack on the Cox’s Bazar Air Force base, triggering a clash between security personnel and locals.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attack originated from Samity Para, a locality adjacent to the base. In response, the Bangladesh Air Force stated that necessary measures were being taken to address the situation.

Sources indicate that the incident followed a heated land dispute earlier in the day, which escalated into a violent confrontation between air force personnel and residents. Reports suggest that locals began throwing stones, injuring individuals on both sides. However, the authorities have yet to disclose the exact number of injuries.

Medical sources confirmed that Shihab Kabir sustained gunshot wounds and was declared "brought dead" at Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital. Doctors also noted severe head injuries. Officials warned that the death toll could rise.

Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin assured that a thorough investigation would be launched to determine the root cause of the conflict. He also stated that strict action would be taken against those responsible.

Meanwhile, security measures have been heightened in the area as authorities work to stabilize the situation and prevent further escalation.
