March 21, 2025: Finland has once again been ranked as the happiest country in the world, according to the annual World Happiness Report. This marks the eighth consecutive year that Finland has held the top spot. The report, which was released on the UN’s international Day of Happiness, assesses the quality of life in over 140 countries based on feedbacks from residents.
The report evaluates various factors such as social support, health, freedom, generosity, perception of corruption and GDP to determine the happiness levels of 147 countries. Finland scored an impressive average of 7.74 out of 10, where 10 represents the best possible life imaginable.
Afghanistan has been ranked as the unhappiest country in the world, largely due to the struggles faced by Afghan women, who reported that their lives have become increasingly difficult.
India has made a slight improvement in its happiness quotient, moving up from 126th place in 2024 to 118th place in the latest report.
Among India’s neighbouring countries, Nepal ranked the highest at 92nd place, followed by Pakistan at 109th place, China at 68th place, while Sri Lanka and Bangladesh ranked lower at 133rd and 134th place respectively.
