Delhi breathes a sigh of relief, quite literally!

March 16, 2025: Delhi experienced a significant improvement in air quality on Saturday, recording an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 85, the lowest in three years for the January to mid March period. This achievement marks the first day of 2025 with a “satisfactory” AQI, according to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).

The CAQM attributed the improved air quality to favourable winds, light rains and improved meteorological conditions. As a result, the restrictions imposed under Stage 1 of the GRAP (Graded Action Response Plan) were revoked. The panel directed concerned agencies to sustain better AQI levels, and prevent a decline to the “poor” category.

The city’s air quality monitoring stations recorded varying AQI levels, with Anand Vihar at 80 and Alipur at 48, which falls under the “good” category.

The improved air quality is a welcome relief for delhi residents, who have been experiencing hazardous air quality conditions for extended periods. The CAQM’s efforts to implement measures to curb air pollution have contributed to this positive change.
