Punjab Police to Transfer 7 Khalistani Separatists, Amritpal Singh's Aides, from Dibrugarh Jail

March 17, 2025: The Punjab Police has initiated the process of transferring seven associates of Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh from Dibrugarh Central Jail to Punjab. These individuals were arrested under the National Security Act (NSA) and have been in custody for nearly two years.

According to sources, a Punjab Police team is set to present the seven detainees before the Dibrugarh court today and take them into custody. Following legal procedures, they will be shifted to Punjab. Before their transfer, they will undergo a medical examination at a local hospital.

A 25-member team of Punjab Police, led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Harinder Singh Gill, has been stationed in Dibrugarh for the past two days to oversee the process. The team includes several senior officials, including Additional Superintendents and Sub-Inspectors.

The Punjab government recently decided to relax the NSA provisions against seven of Amritpal Singh’s associates: Daljit Singh Kalchi, Bhagwant Singh (alias Prime Minister Bajeke), Papalpreet Singh, Kulwant Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Basant Singh, and Harjeet Singh Kalchi. As their NSA detention period ends on March 19, they are likely to be transferred to Punjab soon. The government has chosen not to reimpose the NSA on them, allowing for their relocation and further judicial proceedings.

Meanwhile, Amritpal Singh and two of his close aides, Papalpreet Singh and Varinder Singh Johal, will continue to be detained under the NSA until June. They are expected to remain in Dibrugarh Central Jail at least until April.

The transfer process marks a significant development in the legal proceedings against the Waris Punjab De leader and his associates, who have been in high-security custody since their arrest. Further updates on their legal status are awaited as Punjab Police proceeds with the next steps.
