Guwahati: The North-Eastern Hill University Teachers' Association (NEHUTA) has strongly criticized Vice Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla for his remarks blaming professors for the ongoing unrest in the university.
NEHUTA President Lakhon Kma alleged that Shukla's academic caliber is insufficient to address the university's problems and challenged him to a face-off over the issues.
Kma accused Shukla of flouting various rules and regulations, including government leave rules, UGC regulations, and the NEHU Act. He claimed that Shukla has made unauthorized appointments, including hiring unqualified and undeserving individuals, and has neglected the promotion of deserving faculty members.
The NEHUTA president also alleged that Shukla has violated norms by creating arbitrary posts, such as the Campus Director for Tura, which is not recognized by the university or the UGC. He further claimed that Shukla has destabilized the university by failing to conduct recruitment for non-teaching posts and ignoring constructive criticism from teachers and students.
Shukla has been on leave for 130 days and has not reported to the university's headquarters in Shillong. The Ministry of Education is currently examining a report on Shukla's alleged wrongdoing.
Kma stated that stakeholders are committed to the university's welfare and will let the public judge Shukla's incompetence, arrogance, and hidden agenda.
