Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court today heard the bail plea of Mahabubul Haque, Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), in connection with the Dhekiajuli case.

The court has reserved its verdict, which is likely to be pronounced on Monday.

Mahabubul Haque was arrested in the Dhekiajuli case after securing bail in two Patharkandi cases. He has also been granted adjournment in other cases in Kokrajhar, Barpeta, and Gossaigaon.

Haque's arrest on February 22, 2025, sparked widespread concern, with many calling for his release.

The USTM Chancellor has been embroiled in several cases, but his supporters argue that the allegations against him are unfounded as well as a political conspiracy.
