Shillong: The Khasi Students' Union (KSU) marked its 47th anniversary with a stern warning to the Meghalaya government over the railway issue.
The union expressed strong opposition to the railway project, citing concerns over the lack of mechanisms to check influx, such as the Inner Line Permit (ILP).
KSU President Lambokstarwell Marngar described the railway project as a "deliberate provocation" and asserted that the union would not tolerate development at the cost of the Khasi people's security.
The KSU has been vocal about its demands for the implementation of ILP in Meghalaya, which has been pending since 2019.
The union also criticized the government's failure to enforce the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), 2016, and questioned the central government's inaction on implementing ILP in the state. The KSU also vowed to continue its efforts to detect illegal immigrants and warned that it would not remain silent if the state government reneged on its assurance to involve stakeholders in framing rules and improving the Meghalaya Investment Promotion and Facilitation (MIPF) Act.
