Guwahati: Mahbubul Haque, the Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), has been granted interim bail in a case filed at the Dhekiajuli police station.

Haque is expected to be out of jail soon after the bail grant.

The court had reserved its verdict regarding the bail last week.

Mahabubul Haque was arrested in the Dhekiajuli case after securing bail in two Patharkandi cases. He has also been granted adjournment in other cases in Kokrajhar, Barpeta, and Gossaigaon.

Haque's arrest on February 22, 2025, sparked widespread concern, with many calling for his release.

The USTM Chancellor has been embroiled in several cases, but his supporters argue that the allegations against him are unfounded as well as a political conspiracy.
