Guwahati: A tragic incident occurred at a residential school in Karnataka's Mandya district, where a 13-year-old boy from Meghalaya died, and 29 other students were hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning.



As per reports, the students, mostly from Meghalaya and Nepal, consumed leftover food from a Holi celebration, which led to severe vomiting, diarrhoea, and dehydration.



The deceased, identified as Sunday Kerlang, was a Class VI student from Lyndem village in Meghalaya. Seven other students are in critical condition, with one on a ventilator.



The incident occurred at Gokul Educational Institution in T Kagepura village, which has been operating an alleged unauthorized hostel since 1989. The school management was illegally operating the hostel without proper infrastructure, including toilets for children.



The police have registered a case under Section 286 and Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and arrested three people, including the cook, hostel warden, and school owner, for negligence.
