New Delhi: Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has emphasized the importance of having family members present during cricket tours, citing the balance and normalcy it brings to players' lives.

Kohli's comments come after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) introduced restrictions on players' family time on tours.

Speaking at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, Kohli highlighted the grounding effect of being with family, especially during intense periods.

He expressed disappointment that people often fail to understand the value of family presence, which can help players cope with pressure and responsibility.

Kohli stated that no player wants to be alone after a poor performance and that being with family allows them to be normal and treat their game as a responsibility.

He also shared his personal experience of cherishing time with his family and finding normalcy in his home life.

The Indian cricketer, who recently helped India win the ICC Champions Trophy, will be part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team in the upcoming IPL 2025 season. Kohli, the highest run-getter in IPL history, will aim to lead his team to their maiden title and break more batting records.

It may be mentioned that as per new rules, family members can stay with players for only 14 days on tours lasting over 45 days, and not at all during the first two weeks. For shorter tours, families can accompany players for up to a week.
