February 15, 2025: In a major crackdown on insurgent activities, security forces arrested nine militants associated with different proscribed outfits from Manipur’s Imphal East and Thoubal districts, police reported on Saturday.
According to officials, four active members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Noyon) were apprehended from Chingdompok in Thoubal district on Friday. These individuals were allegedly involved in kidnapping and extortion activities.
In a separate operation, security forces arrested four militants linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party-Progressive War Group (KCP-PWG) in Khabeisoi, Imphal East. The group was reportedly engaged in extortion activities in the region.
Additionally, one active member of the United National Liberation Front-Pambei (UNLF-Pambei) was arrested from Nungoi Awang Leikai in Imphal East. Authorities stated that he was involved in extortion and the transportation of arms and ammunition within Imphal city. A .32 pistol was seized from his possession.
Meanwhile, in a significant recovery, security forces seized a cache of arms and explosives from a riverbank in Hiyanglam Natekhong Thongjin, Kakching district, on Friday. The recovered items included two single-barrel guns, a modified sniper rifle with a scope, a country-made pistol, five hand grenades, four IEDs, live rounds of an INSAS rifle, a 9mm pistol, two handsets, and a China-made drone.
Authorities have intensified security measures in the region to curb insurgent activities and prevent further threats to law and order.
