Guwahati: The Khasi Students' Union (KSU) has appealed to the Meghalaya government to closely monitor agencies and groups that lure children and youth from the state with promises of free education or jobs. This call comes after two students from Meghalaya died of food poisoning in an illegal hostel in Karnataka.

KSU general secretary Donald V Thabah emphasized the need for a portal to track individuals moving outside the state for education or employment.

He stressed that the government must monitor groups taking people outside for jobs or education to prevent exploitation.

Thabah expressed concerns about "brainwashing" and "assimilation" attempts, citing a 2009 Tehelka report that revealed over 1,600 Meghalaya students were taken to RSS-backed schools in Karnataka.

The KSU opposes such attempts to manipulate young students, urging the government to take action against groups with hidden agendas.
