Guwahati: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Assam Police intercepted a truck from Mizoram's Champhai district and seized 80,000 yaba tablets worth approximately Rs 24 crore in the Sribhumi district.
Two individuals, residents of Assam's Cachar district, were arrested and are believed to be key operatives in a larger drug trafficking network.
The operation was carried out based on a tip-off, and the seized yaba tablets were found hidden in a concealed compartment of the truck. Yaba, also known as "crazy medicine," is a potent and addictive mixture of methamphetamine and caffeine.
Police said that legal proceedings are underway to trace the supply chains, collaborators, and distribution networks associated with the seized consignment.
The estimated street value of the confiscated yaba tablets was determined based on Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) standards.
The Champhai district in Mizoram has emerged as a significant entry route for such substances.
