February 15, 2025: A second batch of Indian migrants deported from the United States is set to arrive in Amritsar today as part of President Donald Trump’s ongoing immigration crackdown. The flight, carrying 119 individuals, is expected to land at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport around 10 PM.
The deportees include 67 from Punjab, 33 from Haryana, eight from Gujarat, three from Uttar Pradesh, two each from Rajasthan and Maharashtra, and one each from Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh. The US military C-17 aircraft is being used for the transportation, marking the second such flight within a week.
The US has intensified its efforts to deport illegal immigrants, with reports indicating that such repatriation flights will continue every other week until all identified illegal migrants are returned to India. Just last week, 104 Indians were deported in a similar manner.
These deportations coincide with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the US, where he discussed immigration issues with President Trump. Addressing a joint press conference, PM Modi stated that India is prepared to take back its citizens who entered the US illegally, emphasizing the need to combat human trafficking networks that mislead individuals with false promises.
"Our bigger fight is against the ecosystem of human trafficking. We must work together to destroy this network from its roots," Modi said, expressing confidence in Trump's cooperation in tackling the issue.
With deportations continuing, Indian authorities are expected to assist returnees with reintegration while also working to curb illegal immigration practices.
