Kunal Kamra's remarks on Eknath Shinde spark outrage, Shiv Sena workers vandalize studio

Mumbai: Comedian Kunal Kamra has sparked a massive controversy with his comments on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, leading to widespread outrage, protests, and legal action. In a video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Kamra referred to Shinde as a "traitor" and made satirical remarks about his 2022 rebellion.

The video sparked anger among supporters of the Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction, who vandalized a studio where Kamra had reportedly shot the video. Protesters smashed chairs, tables, and lights, expressing their outrage over the comedian's remarks.

Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Kamra, demanding an apology within two days. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also demanded an apology, stating that such statements will not be tolerated in the name of freedom of speech.

In response to the backlash, Mumbai's Habitat Studio announced that it is shutting down temporarily. The studio stated that they have never been involved in the content performed by any artist, but the recent events have made them rethink their role.

Uddhav Thackeray, reacting to Kamra's remarks, said that calling a "traitor" a "traitor" is not wrong. BJP leader Amit Malviya, however, slammed Shiv Sena (UBT) faction for their "hypocrisy" in lamenting about democracy and freedom of expression.

The controversy has led to multiple FIRs being filed, including one against Shiv Sena workers for vandalizing the studio.
