October 30, 2024: In a significant development, the Karnataka High Court has granted interim bail to popular actor Darshan Thoogudeepa for a duration of six weeks. The 47-year-old actor, who was arrested in connection with the alleged torture and murder of a fan, Renukaswamy, received the bail amid concerns regarding his health.
Darshan’s bail request was primarily based on medical grounds, as he claimed to be experiencing numbness in both feet and stated that he requires surgery. His legal team had requested permission for the procedure to be performed at a private hospital in Mysuru, a request that was met with opposition from the public prosecutor. The prosecutor argued that the medical documents did not specify the duration of hospitalization required, suggesting that the surgery could be conducted in a government facility.
As part of the bail conditions, the court mandated that Darshan surrender his passport and provide details of his treatment within seven days. This ruling comes after he was arrested alongside actress Pavithra Gowda and 15 others in June, following accusations linked to the alleged murder of the 33-year-old fan.
The case has drawn significant media attention, raising questions about celebrity behavior and the boundaries of fan interactions.
