Police Rule Out Gang Involvement in Saif Ali Khan Stabbing; Theft Likely Motive, Says Maharashtra Minister

January 17, 2025: Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, clarified on Friday that there is no involvement of any underworld gang in the recent knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The actor, who was attacked in his Bandra apartment early on Thursday morning, has not sought security from the police, and there has been no prior indication of any threats against him.

Speaking to the press, Kadam stated, "A suspect has been detained, and he is not associated with any gang. We have no evidence to suggest that any criminal group was behind the attack." The suspect, whose face matched images captured by CCTV footage of the attack, is reportedly being questioned by the police. Kadam further explained that the primary motive behind the incident appears to be theft rather than a targeted attack orchestrated by any gang.

Saif Ali Khan, aged 54, suffered multiple stab wounds, including injuries to his neck, in the shocking attack at his upscale 12th-floor flat in Bandra. He was rushed to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Doctors have confirmed that Khan is recovering well and is expected to be discharged in two to three days.

Kadam also noted that the actor had never communicated any concerns about a potential threat to his safety and had not requested any security cover. "If Khan decides to seek protection in the future, we will follow due procedures to provide it," he added.

CCTV footage of the suspect fleeing the scene showed him wearing a red scarf and carrying a backpack, running down the stairs of the 'Satguru Sharan' building where Khan resides. The police have detained one individual whose facial features match those seen in the footage and are also tracking another person connected to the incident.

As of now, investigations have not uncovered any criminal gang involvement, and theft remains the most plausible motive behind the attack, according to the authorities.
