January 17, 2025: The All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) and Bodo Sahitya Sabha held a pivotal meeting with Assam’s Education Minister Ranoj Pegu at Janata Bhawan, addressing crucial educational issues in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). The meeting, which was attended by ABSU President Dipen Boro and senior officials from the state education department, resulted in a series of major announcements aimed at improving the educational landscape in BTR.
The key highlights of the meeting included the establishment of 35 model high schools across the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). This initiative aims to improve access to quality education for students in the region. Furthermore, the state government unveiled plans to create separate teaching posts for 54 Boro medium Higher Secondary Schools (HSS), which will boost resources and enhance teaching quality in these schools.
In a significant move to improve the teaching workforce, the government also announced the conduction of a special Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for Boro medium. This step is expected to provide job opportunities for teachers in the region and ensure a higher standard of education. Additionally, the creation of posts for five departments at the proposed Udalguri campus of Boroland University was also discussed, marking a major step towards expanding higher education in the region.
The meeting also delved into the issue of provincialisation of posts in unprovincialised schools within BTC. To address this, the Cabinet Sub-Committee will take special measures to ensure these teachers are formally recognised and integrated into the state’s education system. The proposal to establish new Bodo Medium Model Schools in BTR, similar to Tea Garden Model Schools, was also part of the conversation.
After the meeting, ABSU President Dipen Boro expressed satisfaction over the outcomes and reaffirmed that these steps would play a crucial role in shaping the future of education in BTR.
The discussions and resolutions from this meeting are expected to bring a positive transformation to the educational landscape of Bodoland, ensuring a brighter future for the region’s students.
