Amul Takes a Swipe at L&T Chairman SN Subrahmanyan's Controversial Remarks with Humorous Doodle

January 15, 2025: Amul has once again proven its flair for addressing current events with wit, as it released a playful and poignant commentary on the controversy surrounding L&T Chairman SN Subrahmanyan's recent remarks. In its latest doodle, the iconic dairy brand took a cheeky jibe at Subrahmanyan's suggestion of a 90-hour work week, alongside a misogynistic comment about spending time with one's wife.

The doodle, with the caption "Amul stares at bread daily", humorously draws attention to the idea of staring at bread – a typical breakfast companion – as a daily ritual. While Amul is widely known for its dairy products like milk and butter, the brand cleverly tied this to the ongoing debate on excessive labor, indirectly commenting on Subrahmanyan's remarks.

A bold “L” and “T” were highlighted in the doodle, referencing the L&T company, while a satirical caption asked, “Labour & Toil?” The playful tweak on Subrahmanyan's controversial "How long will you stare at your wife?" remark added to the humor and seriousness of the matter.

The sketch features the famous Amul girl, who is seen standing next to a figure representing Subrahmanyan, pointing at a calendar marked with Sundays. The doodle is a nod to the L&T Chairman's in-house comment about pushing employees to work on Sundays, which, coupled with his inappropriate remark about spending time with one’s spouse, quickly garnered backlash for undermining work-life balance and promoting a sexist viewpoint.

Subrahmanyan’s comments were made during a video call, where he expressed a desire for employees to work over the weekend, stating, “If I can make you work on Sundays, I will be more happy. What do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife? How long can she stare at you?”

Amul’s response, which quickly garnered hundreds of likes, cleverly flipped the situation on its head, questioning the notion of excessive work and the impact it could have on employees' well-being, all while staying true to its signature humorous and creative approach.
