January 17, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a bold pitch to Delhi voters by announcing a range of welfare schemes aimed at women, youth, and the underprivileged. Releasing the party’s manifesto, or “Sankalp Patra,” BJP president JP Nadda detailed initiatives designed to address financial, healthcare, and everyday needs.
Central to the BJP’s promises is a direct benefit of Rs 21,000 for pregnant women, a monthly allowance of Rs 2,500 for all women voters in Delhi, and a Rs 500 subsidy on LPG cylinders for families. In addition to the monthly allowance, families using LPG would also receive free cylinders during the festive occasions of Holi and Diwali, providing relief from the financial burden of rising cooking gas prices.
Healthcare remains a key focus for the party, with Nadda announcing an additional Rs 5 lakh insurance cover under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which already provides Rs 5 lakh annual coverage per family. This move signals the BJP’s intent to implement the scheme in Delhi, which has so far been opposed by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). To further support economically weaker sections, the manifesto includes a plan to introduce Atal canteens in slum areas, offering nutritious meals for just Rs 5.
Addressing concerns raised by the AAP about the continuation of existing welfare programs, Nadda assured voters that all current schemes, such as free electricity for up to 200 units and free bus rides for women, would remain intact under a BJP-led government. He accused the AAP of thriving on corruption and inefficiency, coining the term “AAPda” (disaster) to describe the ruling party’s governance.
The BJP’s promises come in the midst of a fiercely contested electoral battle, with AAP and Congress also vying for the support of Delhi’s voters. The AAP has pledged Rs 2,100 for women voters, while Congress has proposed Rs 2,500 monthly assistance under its Pyari Didi Yojana. The BJP’s manifesto, however, seeks to distinguish itself with its focus on direct benefits, expanded healthcare coverage, and measures to support women and families across the capital.
With the elections scheduled for February 5, the BJP’s announcement sets the stage for a heated political contest, as each party vies to secure the trust and votes of Delhi’s citizens.
