Police Bust Stolen Goods Network, Arrest Jewelry Shop Owner in Basistha Case

March 20, 2025: In a major breakthrough in the Basistha PS Case No-444/24 under Sections 380 and 427 of the IPC, police have apprehended a habitual receiver of stolen goods and recovered a significant quantity of suspected stolen items.



The development came after the interrogation of the prime accused, Yusuf Ali, who had been arrested earlier in connection with the case. During questioning, Yusuf Ali revealed that he had been selling stolen items to a jewelry shop in Khanka on multiple occasions. Acting on this crucial lead, police launched a search operation at the shop, identified as Mama Bagan Jewelry Shop, and the residence of the alleged receiver.



The shop owner, Maidul Islam, a 34-year-old resident of Sijubari, Khanka Bylane-10, under Hatigaon Police Station in Kamrup (M), was found in possession of a large quantity of valuables believed to have been stolen. Among the seized items were silver jewelry weighing over two kilograms, several bangles, finger rings, chains with lockets, earrings, and cash amounting to ₹85,000. Additionally, a Pulsar motorcycle bearing registration number AS13K4144 was also recovered.



Following the recovery, Maidul Islam was taken into custody for further investigation. Police are now probing the extent of the stolen goods network and suspect that more individuals may be involved. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those engaged in such illegal activities.



Further investigation is underway, and more arrests are likely in the coming days.
