FIR Filed Against BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi Over ‘Mini Bangladesh’ Remark on Dhubri

March 21, 2025: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi has landed in controversy after referring to Dhubri as "Mini Bangladesh," triggering strong reactions from various organizations, including the All Assam Minority Students' Union (AAMSU). The remark has led to widespread protests, with many demanding his arrest.

AAMSU has fiercely criticized Trivedi, calling him "mentally unstable" and insisting that the Indian government arrange medical treatment for him. The organization further alleged that Trivedi has no understanding of Assam’s geography and demanded an immediate apology to the 3.5 million voters of Dhubri.

Leaders of AAMSU believe the comment was a premeditated attempt to create unrest, possibly influenced by a political leader from Assam. They warned that such divisive statements could harm the unity of the state. In response, AAMSU has announced large-scale protests in Dhubri and also targeted Congress MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha for defending Trivedi. The organization stated, “The people of Dhubri have no connection with Bangladesh, but Kamalakhya does. The barbed wire marks on his back haven’t faded yet.”

Amid the uproar, several organizations have lodged complaints against Trivedi, including an FIR at Golakganj police station. Protesters have also questioned the BJP government’s stance, asking, “If there are Bangladeshis in Dhubri, then what has the BJP government been doing?”

The Goriya Moriya Deshi Jatiya Parishad have warned of intensified agitation if Trivedi does not apologize soon. As protests escalate, calls for his arrest continue to grow, with many demanding strict action against his remarks.
