Shillong: The West Garo Hills police in Meghalaya rescued a kidnapped businessman and apprehended one of his abductors, while another kidnapper was killed in an encounter.
The dramatic events unfolded near the village of Danangre Songma under Dadenggre PS limits in the district.
According to police sources, Ruvi Hussain, a local businessman, was abducted by three armed criminals while transporting cattle in the area. His son, Rasik Hussain, filed a complaint with the Damal Asim police station, prompting a swift response from the authorities.
During the rescue operation, two of the kidnappers were injured, with one succumbing to his injuries while being taken to the hospital. The other injured kidnapper, identified as Chingsan Marak, was arrested. The deceased kidnapper was identified as Raksan Marak.
The police also recovered incriminating evidence, including a country-made shotgun, a small bag, and a knife, during search operations following the encounter. The successful rescue operation is seen as a significant blow to organized crime in the region.
