Dispur Police Bust Major Car Theft Racket; Four Arrested, Including Three Men

March 15, 2025: Dispur Police have dismantled a major car theft racket and arrested four individuals, including three men and one woman. The accused were allegedly involved in smuggling luxury Mahindra Thar vehicles to Aizawl.

According to police sources, the case came to light after two Mahindra Thar and one Scorpio vehicle went missing from a rental agency in Guwahati. Three young women from Manipur had booked the vehicles for self-drive, claiming they were traveling to Shillong. However, the vehicles never reached their stated destination, leading to suspicion.

When the owner of the vehicles noticed the unusual route deviation, he tried to contact the renters, but received no response. Realizing that something was wrong, he filed a complaint at Dispur Police Station.

During the investigation, police discovered that the Aadhaar and PAN cards submitted by the three women were fake. Further inquiries revealed that the women had come to Guwahati to appear for the Delhi Police SI examination and were later used by the car theft gang to carry out the crime.

Dispur Police launched an operation and successfully recovered the stolen vehicles from a border area of a neighboring state. In connection with the case, three men directly linked to the car theft racket were arrested, while the three women were detained for further interrogation regarding their involvement.

Currently, all suspects are being held at Dispur Police Station as the investigation continues. Police suspect that the gang may be linked to a larger vehicle smuggling network operating across multiple states.
