Guwahati: Three police personnel, including a constable and two home guards, were arrested by their own colleagues at the Panigaon police station in Lakhimpur district of Assam.
The arrests were made on Friday night under Section 308(2)/61/(2) of the Indian Code of Justice.
Constable Hiranya Kumar Patgiri and home guards Dilip Kalita and Deepak Mili, were accused of accepting a bribe of Rs 21,000 from a person named Raj Kumar Dal.
According to reports, Raj Kumar Dal was "falsely" accused of cow theft and was demanded to pay Rs 50,000 by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) Satyajit Bora.
Dal paid Rs 21,000 and later filed a complaint with the Superintendent of Police regarding the incident.
Following the complaint, two senior police officials of the police station were suspended.
An investigation following the incident led to the arrest of the three police personnel.
