March 21, 2025: In a shocking case of abuse of power, a suspended Assam Police officer, Nizamuddin Bhuiyan, has been sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl. The verdict was pronounced by Abhayapuri Additional Sessions Judge Bhupen Kumar Nath.  

The horrific incident took place when the minor was returning home from school. Bhuiyan, exploiting his position, committed the crime inside a tempo and later allegedly threatened the victim’s family to prevent them from filing a case. However, justice has now been served, exposing the dark side of those sworn to protect the law.  

Along with the prison sentence, the court also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on the convicted officer. Additionally, the District Legal Services Authority has been directed to provide adequate compensation to the survivor.  

This case has sparked outrage, with many questioning the integrity of law enforcement and demanding stricter action against those who misuse their power.
