Guwahati: An elderly man reportedly died during an elephant attack at Manas National Park, near the India-Bhutan border in Chirang, Assam.
As per reports, a wild elephant attacked a group of locals collecting wild vegetables.
The attack resulted in the death of 60-year-old Anil Barman, a resident of No 2 Dailongjhar village.
On Saturday, Barman and his companions had entered the national park when they encountered the wild elephant.
While his companions managed to escape unharmed, Barman succumbed to his injuries.
Forest department officials retrieved Barman's body from inside the national park on Sunday and transported it to his residence.
It may be mentioned that a lack of safety measures has been claimed the primary cause behind the attack and ultimately, Barman's death.
An investigation regarding the incident is being carried out by the forest official.
