December 3, 2024: Aliya Fakhri, the 43-year-old sister of Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, has been arrested in connection with the tragic deaths of her ex-boyfriend, Edward Jacobs, and his friend, Anastasia Ettienne, following a deadly fire set in a detached garage in New York's Queens borough.
According to the office of Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, the incident occurred on the morning of November 2, 2024, when Fakhri allegedly set fire to the garage of a home in the Jamaica neighborhood, where Jacobs lived. Authorities said Fakhri confronted Jacobs before the blaze, reportedly shouting, "You're all going to die today," as she deliberately ignited the structure.
Jacobs, who was asleep in the upstairs portion of the building at the time, was unaware of the danger until it was too late. A witness, who heard Fakhri's ominous words, discovered the garage engulfed in flames shortly after the confrontation.
As the fire spread, Jacobs' friend, Anastasia Ettienne, rushed downstairs upon hearing the alarm. In an attempt to save Jacobs, Ettienne went back upstairs, but neither of them managed to escape the deadly inferno. Both victims died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries, as confirmed by the District Attorney’s office.
Aliya Fakhri, a resident of Parsons Boulevard in Queens, was arrested shortly after the incident. Authorities have charged her with two counts of murder and arson in connection with the deaths. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.
The arrest has shocked the community and is particularly notable due to Fakhri's family ties to the Indian film industry. Nargis Fakhri, a popular Bollywood actress known for her roles in films like Rockstar and Madras Café, has not publicly commented on the incident at this time.
